RUSU Helps Save Library Makerspace

Earlier this year, RUSU ran a campaign to say no to library cuts and save the Makerspace. So many of you jumped on board with the campaign and gave your feedback directly to RMIT, or emailed us with copies of your thoughts so we could submit them on your behalf.

We couldn’t have done this without you. RMIT has told us they received a lot of contact from students and staff asking them to save the Makerspace and they took this into account. We did it!

The fine print: the Makerspace will be open at reduced hours, at least for the foreseeable future. While this is disappointing, keeping the space open is a huge win and we want you all to make the most of it and show RMIT how much we need the space.

Haven’t been to the Makerspace before? The space is currently closed due to COVID. However, once we’re allowed back on campus, we encourage you all to try it out. More details here: https://www.rmit.edu.au/library/about-and-contacts/hours-and-locations/makerspace

Tell your friends. Go there together as soon as we’re allowed on campus. Who knows? If enough of us want to use the space, perhaps RMIT will have no choice but to increase the opening hours again.

Thanks again to everyone who helped out with the campaign.

All the best for the summer break and we look forward to seeing many of you back in 2021.

Sincerely,

RUSU Campaigns Team
