THE KEY ELECTION ISSUES

What Matters to RUSU...

Over the past couple of years, we have seen students lose jobs in their thousands, university funding has been slashed, degrees have doubled in cost and the standard of living has dropped.

Young LGBTQI+ Australians and trans-students have been targeted with discrimination and derision. International students have been treated as second class citizens, our federal leaders telling them to just go home. They have been targeted by racist attacks, with little to no support being provided.

Collectively for young adults, our employment conditions and future prospects have been systematically chipped away. Funding for innovation, science and the arts has been stripped. And compared to previous generations, we have few prospects for home ownership or an equal and fair standard of living.

The current government doesn't care about the climate crisis, and continues to pin Australia's wealth on gas and coal, while the world burns. The legacy of this recklessness is our future. What is clear is that the current government is not listening to young people!

At RUSU we believe that all Australians, and those who want to call Australia home, should be treated equally, and with dignity and respect. RUSU believes in positive change for everyone, and a fairer and more equitable system that values our future as a nation.

At RUSU, we support:

  • Climate Justice NOW!
  • Better funding for universities & student unions
  • More support for international students and less restrictive visa conditions.
  • Increased welfare support for all students.
  • Stable and secure employment for all workers, including university staff.
  • Free TAFE and vocational training.

Every vote matters. Scrutinise the policies of all the candidates in your electorate, and show the government what you want to see from them! Support a better future – it’s time to change the government!

Stay Safe and Make YOUR voice heard!
