The student publication of RMIT University since 1944

Catalyst

What is Catalyst?

It’s your very own student magazine and we’d love for you to be on our team! Catalyst is always on the hunt for new talent, including creative writers, photographers, journalists, artists, radio producers, filmmakers, advertising wiz’s, designers, cat gif experts and heaps more.

Catalyst is RMIT’s student magazine since 1944. This year’s going to be big for Catalyst with the continuation of our podcast Cataclysm, producing video content with RMITV, our dedication to creating an amazing print magazine and a whole bunch of brand spanking new content in the works.

We write news about RMIT, Melbourne and Victoria. But we also like to explore everything in between, the dark, the weird, the sensual; it’s all good when it comes to Catalyst. We’re always looking for new ways to tell a story, we want to help you be the next big thing.

Whaddya need?

We’re always on the lookout for more news writers, to cover what’s happening around RMIT and issues in the national sphere affecting students. It’s important, but it’s also pretty easy and a lot of fun.

We also need critics and reviewers. We get a lot of emails everyday from people asking us to come check out their film, their show or their album. If you fancy yourself an art snob, then let us send you to gigs or music festivals for free! We only ask you write about it afterwards.

We want more creative writing. Right now we’re news heavy, we want more creative stuff. If you’ve got a short story, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, post-modern haikus send it to us!

We always need advertising wizzes. Catalyst magazine is a great place to advertise and we’re always looking for new ways to get sponsored, get our name out there and get ads in our pages. If you think you’re a marketing guru, we want you.

Always could do with more artists. A bucket of paint and a blank canvas may not be your thing, that’s cool. But if you’re a photographer, audio artist, cartoonists, filmmaker, animator, graphic designer, illustrator, etc or just like to draw funny things then let’s get you published.

And there’s always room for feature writers. Big issues take time to unwrap, analyse and explain and if you love your Saturday Paper or New Yorker then maybe it’s time you wrote for us.

But wait! If you have a unique skill we haven’t mentioned, that you believe can help Catalyst, or work you believe should be talked about and showcased we want you!

I'm interested in advertising with Catalyst.

We want to hear from you! Send an email to catalyst@rmit.edu.au and request to access our ad pack which contains pricing, deadlines and information about the many ways you can sponsor student media and access our young audience.

You don’t just have to advertise in the magazine! There’s our podcast Cataclysm, our videos and our website too.

With access to a huge demographic in the heart of Melbourne, our readers could be at your door in 20 - 30 minutes by train, tram, car, bike or foot.
